Airport Search Unit (ASU) Officer.

The ASU officer will play a key role in delivering consistent, targeted levels of safety, security and services, and a quality user experience.

The primary focus of the security team is to ensure the safe, secure, smooth and timely processing of all passengers throughout Dublin Airport (including internal and external posts) on a 24/7 shift basis which can include night duties, bank holidays and early morning starts (e.g. 04.00am). The ASU officer rotates between duties within the security function on both a shift and roster basis. The 16-40 hour contract is a guaranteed 16 hours minimum but with full flexibility to ramp up to 40 hours if and when required.

Security responsibilities

Inspection and screening of passengers, staff, contractors, visitors and baggage to international standards as defined by ICAO and ECAC

  • Screening passengers & staff via the Walk Through Metal Detector (WTMD)
  • X-Ray examination and physical searching of hand baggage

Assist passengers with the screening process by providing information on regulatory requirements

Monitor and ensure the safe and efficient flow of passengers through Dublin Airport including:

  • provide a proactive response to address any queuing or congestion issues  
  • maintain clear walkways, routes and emergency exits

Escalate any security screening issues that arise to the security screening team lead

Monitor general compliance with fire, health and safety requirements, ensuring any fire, health and safety issues within Dublin Airport are immediately reported and addressed

Monitor general terminal operations and ensure any operational issues/faults are immediately reported and resolved

Safe handling and storage of surrendered sharps, liquids and gels from security screening area

Control access to sterile areas, including thorough examination of:-

  • Boarding passes (all types, including electronic or other)
  • Access permits
  • Electronic escort passes

Management of tray supplies and loading of passenger items into trays and onto conveyor belts

Deal effectively with lost property left in the terminal

General

Strongly focus on meeting customer and stakeholder needs with concern beyond own area and for quality end-to-end passenger experience, ensuring security, safety and comfort is of the highest concern

Deliver high quality performance to achieve set targets and specified quality standards and processes

Provide assistance as required in the event of an airport emergency or unplanned event including fire safety marshalling

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Willingness to work in a shift environment where flexibility is required for changing passenger demands
  • Willingness to work a variety of shift patterns that include night duties, bank holidays and early morning starts (e.g. 04.00)
  • Ability to work in an environment where adherence to standard operating procedures is a significant feature of daily responsibilities
  • Experience in a service driven organisation is desirable
  • Strong customer orientation and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent standard of English
  • Professional, friendly and helpful in approach
  • Accredited Screener Certification certificate would be desirable
  • Understanding of Dublin Airport operations is desirable
